CONJUNCTIONS

Conjunction adalah kata sambung yang menghubungkan kata-kata atau kalimat diantaranya yaitu : and, but, or, because, after, before, although, however, until, yet, when, whereas, whether, while, so, either, neither, as, as if, unless, nevertheless, dsb.

Berikut adalah contoh-contoh pemakaian kata sambung dalam kalimat :

AND : dan

  • I have a guitar and a piano (saya mempunyai gitar dan piano)
  • He can read and write (Dia bisa membaca dan menulis)

BUT : tetapi

  • Tom was there but jhon was not (Tom ada disana tetapi Jhon tidak ada)
  • He is strong but he doesn’t like to work (Dia kuat tetapi tidak suka bekerja)
  • I could not choose but go (saya tidak bisa memilih tetapi terpaksa harus)

OR : atau

  • Is it green or blue ? (warnanya hijau atau biru ? )
  • Are you coming or not ? (kamu mau datang atau tidak ?)
  • Hurry up or you’ll be late (cepatlah atau kamu akan terlambat)

BECAUSE : karena

  • Susan is not at school because she is ill (Susan tidak hadir di sekolah karena dia sakit)
  • I won;t go out beause the weather is very bad (saya tidak mau pergi ke luar karena cuaca sangat buruk)

AFTER : setelah

  • I arrived after he left ( saya tiba setelah saya berangkat)
  • He had lunch after he finished the report (dia makan siang setelah menyelesaikan laporan)

BEFORE : sebelum

  • You must finish ypur work before you go home (kamu harus menyelesaikan pekerjaanmu sebelum pulang)
  • Do it now before you forget (kerjakan sekarang sebelum kamu lupa)

ALTHOUGH : walaupun

  • He is always neatly dressed although he is poor ( dia selalu berpakain rapi walaupun dia miskin)

HOWEVER : namun

  • Later, however, he decided to sell the house ( namun kemudian, dia memutuskan untuk menjual rumah itu)

UNTIL : sampai, sebelum

  • Go straight on until you come to the post office and then turn left (pergilah lurus saja sampai kantor pos lalu belok ke kiri)
  • She won’t go away until you promise help. ( Dia tidak mau pergi sebelum kamu berjanji membantu dia )
